The Position

Our client is seeking to fill an Audit & Compliance Director role in the greater Chicago, IL market. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Audit Department’s planning, execution and reporting on operational, financial, regulatory, and compliance related audits for the Bank.  These audits provide a robust third line of defense in the Bank’s overall Enterprise Risk Management strategy by providing assurance as to the effectiveness of the bank’s systems and controls.

The position offers a generous salary of up to $150K and a full benefits package.

Audit & Compliance Director responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Compliance Department’s planning, execution and reporting in support of an effective bank wide compliance program for the Bank.
  • Serving as a leading member of the bank’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee ensuring annual risk assessments accurately present the bank’s overall risk position.
  • Assisting in the development of an internal audit work plan and continuously improve the audit documents and procedures.
  • Planning and conducting moderate-to-complex audit engagements including risk assessments within the areas of operations, regulatory compliance and lending in accordance with the internal audit program.
  • Ensuring the preparation of timely audit, compliance and ERM reports for executive management, the Audit Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Working and communicating effectively with external auditors and regulators, coordinating control testing and substantive testing procedures as part of the annual external audit and regulatory exams.
  • Hiring, developing and managing an audit and compliance team whose consultation and advice is sought out by the entire organization as it conducts activities to improve compliance and performance.
  • Performing audit procedures to verify compliance with bank policies/procedures, federal and state statutes.
  • Performing audit procedures to verify the operational effectiveness of controls through appropriate testing procedures; identify control gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of management.
  • Tracking and conducting follow-up reviews of financial, operational or regulatory compliance deficiencies noted during audits.
  • Staying abreast of best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducting investigations of irregularities discovered by, or brought to, the auditor’s attention.
  • Performing other duties as required.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business required.
  • Master’s Degree, CPA or other relevant professional certification such as CIA and CRCM are desirable.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible audit experience for medium to large sized financial institution(s)
  • Ability to review and analyze financial data.
  • Knowledge of federal and state banking rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret statutes and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate to individuals at all levels within the organization as well as with regulatory agencies and external contacts.
