The Position

Our bank client is seeking to fill a Bank Controller role in the Hillsdale, MI area. The selected candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Bank’s general accounting system and financial information reporting, including internal, external, and regulatory reports.

This position offers a generous salary of up to $100K and full benefits package.

Bank Controller responsibilities include:

  • Recording of the Bank’s financial transactions, the preparation, and interpretation of financial reports and statements for the Board of Directors, internal management, and outside groups, including regulatory reporting.
  • Managing the Bank’s accounting staff and providing overall management for all departmental activities and functions.
  • Assisting senior management with the financial information needed for major facilities renovations and new bank products.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the annual budget based on the financial objectives of the Bank.
  • Coordinating internal and external audits of the Bank’s financial records.
  • Managing the Bank’s cash flow and tracking and monitoring the bank’s liquidity position.
  • Ensuring that reports conform to GAAP with proper disclosure requirements.
  • Establishing or recommending to management major policies for the Bank.
  • Preparing reports, which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position, in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Directing the preparation of cash forecast and other financial information and reports for utilization by the Funds Management Committee.
  • Developing, evaluating, managing, and improving processes used in the Finance department for the work to be produced efficiently and of high quality to meet or exceed the Bank standard.
  • Performing analysis of capital expenditures before projects commence to determine the cost of the project and directing determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
  • Additional duties that may be assigned.

You also bring the following skills and experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, related discipline, or experience commensurate with the position.
  • Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in accounting.
  • Managerial or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team by interacting with other departments in a positive manner and representing as a client liaison with internal departments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to represent the Bank in a professional manner, through proper attire, effective communication, and a team-oriented and willing attitude to go above and beyond.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred.
