The Position

Our bank client is seeking to fill a Bank Controller role based in the Hinsdale, IL market. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the Bank’s Accounting Department to ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports to management, the Board, auditors and regulatory authorities. The Controller ensures that the bank’s accounting procedures are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Controller responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of year-end tax information and modeling various initiatives on an as needed basis.
  • Overseeing the management of the Accounting Department and coordinates accounting, taxes, control policies and procedures, and fixed assets.
  • Reviewing all accounting-related policies and procedures developed by Accounting and other departments to ensure proper GAAP treatment.
  • Proactively maintaining the chart of accounts within the general ledger system including evaluating requests to open new accounts and periodically closing and purging inactive accounts from the system.
  • Preparing, reviewing, modifying, updating and submitting for approval of general accounting policies and procedures.
  • Acting as a liaison to outside auditing firms.
  • Providing schedules, computations and other documentation as required.
  • Reviewing the monthly income tax provision for the consolidated group. Calculating quarterly estimated tax payments for the consolidated group.
  • Reviewing the statement of condition of the Bank each day to identify inconsistencies. Reviewing and resolving any inconsistencies with the appropriate department.
  • Continuously reviewing accounting operations, the tax position and all Bank activities to identify, and properly account for results.
  • Establishing and implementing operating procedures to ensure proper internal controls in accounting-related areas.
  • Overseeing, reviewing and training in the preparation of and documentation required for reconciliations including tracking and resolution of aged items.
  • Reviewing new systems and system program changes to ensure proper GAAP treatment.
  • Responsible for all aspects of fixed assets accounting and general accounting for the Bank and its subsidiaries.
  • Calculating and recording of gains and losses on loan sales, including servicing assets and liabilities, and their amortization, accretion and related impairment analysis.
  • Maintaining expense and income accruals, deferrals, amortizations and accretions.
  • Overseeing check and money order vendor relationship and accounting.
  • Preparing and administering quality control and self-audit procedures for the Department on a periodic basis.
  • Evaluating business processes and making recommendations for updates and enhancements as the organization grows and changes to create efficiencies through automation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA certificate preferred.
  • Five or more years of combined financial institution audit experience and bank accounting experience at a management level.
  • Proficient in tax and accounting matters.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate modern office and computer equipment at an advanced level.
  • Broad conceptual understanding of accounting standards, tax and banking regulations.
