The Position

Our California based bank client is seeking to fill a Remote BSA (SAR) Investigator position. The candidate is responsible for completing alert investigations and provides sound justification and documentation for decisions on Suspicious Activity Reports (SARS), accurately determines when SARs should be filed, and drafts and codes SARs for filing in accordance with current FinCEN guidelines and instructions.

This position offers a generous salary of up to $92K plus bonus and a full benefits package.

BSA (SAR) Investigator responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in developing and administering all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act program including OFAC, Customer Identification Program, KYC, and Enhanced Due Diligence ensuring adherence to State and Federal regulatory compliance.
  • Completing alert reviews when needed determining if alerts should be further investigated and provide sound justification and documentation for decisions.
  • Making recommendations to improve policies and procedures to maximize departmental resources; assists in mitigating the risks associated with high-risk customers through enhanced due diligence review and suspicious activity identification.
  • Performing daily review of AML system alerts that have been escalated to investigations and determines whether activities are suspicious or commensurate with customer’s expected business operations.
  • Inputting, organizing, and reviewing alerts and investigations daily and responsible for logging and tracking alerts and cases for monitoring purposes.
  • Assisting in monitoring and reviewing of follow-up SARs and no-SAR.
  • Performing KYC/EDD searches to document investigations.
  • Assisting in conducting periodic reviews and analysis of banking transactions of high-risk accounts.
  • Assisting the department in the preparation of BSA audits and/or other related duties as assigned.
  • Actively participates in a culture of constant BSA, AML, OFAC training, and continuing education.
  • All other duties assigned.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • College degree or equivalent.
  • Three or more years’ experience in a BSA/AML related position, including extensive SAR Investigation experience.
  • CAMS Certification preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of BSA/AML laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with CIP, CDD, and EDD processes.
  • Knowledge of general bank operations; including cash handling, alert review, Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) completion, and SAR filing, MSB, and high-risk customer review process knowledge.
  • Aptitude for continuously learning and understanding of suspicious or unusual activities.
  • Ability to recognize new/emerging anti-money laundering patterns/typologies and respond based on applied knowledge and a wide range of research/investigative techniques.
  • Proficient in PC software such as Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Excellent attention to detail and emphasis on accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, listening, and written.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities, meet deadlines and resolve highly complex financial problems.
