The Position

Our community bank client is seeking to fill a Chief Lending Officer role to be based within 1 hours of the La Crosse, WI market. The selected candidate will be responsible for the growth, quality, and compliance of the loan portfolio, along with risk management and collection activities of the Bank.  Reporting directly to the President/CEO this position is a key member of the senior leadership team at the Bank.

The position includes a generous salary of up to $125K and excellent benefits package.

Chief Lending Officer responsibilities include:

  • Achieving a balanced and profitable loan portfolio.
  • Identifying and implementing tactics to minimize and manage non-accrual loans.
  • Launching and utilizing online mortgage application capability.
  • Directing and monitoring centralized lending operations for the entire bank, through subordinate manages/supervisors, to ensure that the bank meets established goals and objectives with respect to lending.
  • Monitoring product delivery and taking action to resolve problems.
  • Chairing the Loan Committee. Providing an overview of results and presents emerging trends for review/discussion.
  • Developing, proposing, gaining acceptance for and implements lending program policy and strategy; leading activity related to new product development with respect to lending programs.
  • Providing leadership and oversight of staff development.
  • Managing portfolio growth while ensuring quality control through loan servicing workflow.
  • Budgeting, strategic planning and continual process improvement.
  • Partnering with industry professionals and vendor/partners to enhance working relationships.
  • Acting as in-house credit risk management expert including TDR, bankruptcy, foreclosures and loss mitigation.
  • Staying abreast of and providing thought leadership on new regulatory developments impacting lending policies (consumer / real estate / business), product compliance and loan underwriting guidelines.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • B.S. /B.A. in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics or similar discipline required.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • Ten or more years of consumer / real estate / business lending experience; preferably with a bank.
  • Ten of more years of experience working in credit risk analytics and/or risk management with financial institutions including development of credit policy, underwriting standards and internal risk rating scorecards.
  • Prior experience with building and/or maintaining a strong and sound Indirect Lending program.
  • General experience or knowledge in loan pricing, portfolio management, lending and collections.
  • Expertise in loan structure and administration including experience in business development.
  • Proven record of strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Prior leadership and management experience required.
  • Superior negotiation, relationship building and professional reliability.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic including managing multiple projects at a time.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to stay productive in a high growth, dynamic environment.
  • Experienced with handling audits and federal/state exams to ensure a professional environment with engaged and respectful discussion.
