The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Chief Lending Officer role to be based in the Quincy, IL market. The selected candidate will be responsible for monitoring and managing the entire lending and sales programs as well as the overall credit risk management program. Also, the candidate will be involved in all secondary market activities and participate in corporate-level activities at the executive management level.

The position includes a generous salary of up to $140K and an excellent benefits package.

Chief Lending Officer responsibilities include:

  • Managing and growing a commercial loan portfolio of current bank relationships with commercial customers.
  • Working with subordinate executives to assess overall soundness of the loan portfolio and advice on policy questions, business development, staff requirements, performance appraisals, and salary administration as they relate to the lending function.
  • Directing, controlling, and supervising all lending actives, generally on the corporate staff level.
  • Developing and recommending to the CEO specific long-and short-range goals and objectives related to the Bank’s business and profitability.
  • Participating in corporate activities, including formulating policies, identifying new areas of expansion, and developing goals and objectives.
  • Developing Loan Policy and Underwriting Guidelines, subject to final approval, and communicating such to all personnel involved in loan origination, underwriting, processing, and persons authorized to approve loans.
  • Providing surveillance of budget performance, conducting analyses to detect significant trends, identifying causes of variances from planned results and interpreting the impact of these trends and variances on future operating performance.
  • Formulating, reviewing and approving lending policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the performance of the division managers and recommend appropriate compensation/status changes or adjustments in accordance with HR guidelines.
  • Recommending to the CEO the appointment of new officers, promotion, demotion, and/or discharge of management in the division.
  • Adhering to the BSA Policy and all other Bank policies.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or related area OR equivalent training and/or work experience.
  • Master’s degree in finance, banking, personnel, economics, or management preferred.
  • Master’s degree from banking industry recognized school preferred.
  • Ten or more years of consumer / real estate/business lending experience specific experience in small business/commercial lending, possible ag lending experience, and possible SBA lending experience.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong credit administration knowledge and Sales and Business Development Skills.
  • General experience or knowledge in loan pricing, portfolio management, lending, and collections.
  • Expertise in loan structure and administration including experience in business development.
  • Proven record of strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Superior negotiation, relationship building, and professional reliability.
