The Position

Our client is seeking to file a Commercial Underwriter role in the Omaha, NE market. The successful candidate will be responsible for the credit analysis and evaluation process of existing and potential C&I and CRE loan customers; ensuring that credit standards are being maintained consistent with those established in the internal lending policy and within regulatory policies; reviewing loans in the portfolio to maintain quality consistent with the policy guidelines.

Commercial Underwriter responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting financial data, financial condition and level of risk related to various types of borrowing entities and individuals including financial statement analysis, collateral evaluations, trend analysis ratio and industry analysis.
  • Prepare summary, present facts, and offers opinions concerning credit-worthiness. Assign an overall risk rating to the credit request.
  • For CRE loans, conducting in-depth review of rent rolls, leases, balance sheets, income statements and tax returns presented by applicants to assess their ability to generate income sufficient to repay existing and proposed debt.
  • For C&I loans, conducting in-depth review of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, tax returns, business plans and projections presented by applicants to assess their ability to generate income sufficient to repay existing and proposed debt.
  • Review all pertinent credit and financial information, including reporting services, credit bureaus, and other companies.
  • Identifying risks and assisting in structuring loan to mitigate risks. Assigning appropriate risk ratings.
  • Accompanying Commercial Bankers on customer visits on a regular basis.
  • Assisting senior team members and commercial bankers to screen loan packages and collect “due diligence” materials. May interact with customers and accountants to collect information on routine, non-controversial issues. Providing analytical support for developing and maintaining credit studies, financial background information and other relevant data on present and prospective customers. Reviewing appraisals and environmental reports.
  • Assisting in the structure of loan requests, where appropriate, to include suggestions on terms, conditions, collateral and guarantors.
  • Supports commercial lending officers by coordinating and preparing loan presentations or any other related duties.
  • Contacting loan applicants (customers) and/or their representatives (CPA’s, CFO’s) to obtain necessary clarification about information received from them as needed. Responding to credit applications within the time frame established by the department.
  • Complying with all bank policies, procedures, state and federal banking laws and regulations including Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Office of the Comptroller, of the Currency Control (OCC) and USA Patriot Act.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or economics.
  • Four or more years’ experience in Commercial Real Estate credit analysis.
  • Experience with cash flow analysis, ratio analysis and projections is required.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate appraisal techniques, field audit examination techniques and commercial banking regulations required.
  • Formal bank commercial credit training is a plus.
  • Proficient in software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Solid qualitative and quantities analytical skills required.
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual, writing, and communication skills.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills and can work with limited supervision.
  • Existing knowledge of assigned marketplace preferred.
