The Position

Our client is seeking to file a Commercial Underwriter/Portfolio Manager role in the San Francisco, CA market. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing written, in-depth, credit analysis for SBA 7a, 504, as well as conventional loans; C&I, CRE, construction loans. They will also ensure all transactions and processes are in compliance with regulatory and company guidelines, policies and procedures.

This position offers a generous salary of up to $110K and full benefits package.

Commercial Underwriter responsibilities include:

  • Managing loan underwriting process by underwriting, processing, and coordinating the closing of business loans in compliance with the SBA’s SOPs, Bank’s lending policies and procedures, and federal & state regulations.
  • Interpreting financial data, financial condition and level of risk related to various types of borrowing entities and individuals including financial statement analysis, collateral evaluations, trend analysis ratio and industry analysis.
  • Preparing written summary of loan terms and conditions and a written narrative explaining business background, outlining risk factors and justifying assigned risk rating
  • Conducting thorough review of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, tax returns, business plans and projections presented by applicants to assess their ability to generate income sufficient to repay existing and proposed debt on al C&I loans,
  • Identifying risks and assisting in structuring loan to mitigate risks. Assigning appropriate risk ratings.
  • Managing an assigned portfolio for renewals and related tickler items as well as responding to ongoing customer requests and needs.  Portfolio management activities include but not limited to site visits and follow-up calls with clients, brokers, and BDOs.
  • Monitoring loan repayment activities and take necessary action to collect on loan payments past due or matured loans.  Preparing documentation needed to obtain approvals as appropriate.
  • Interacting with account officers to negotiate loan terms and following up on information required to decision the application.
  • Complying with all bank policies, procedures, state and federal banking laws and regulations including Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Office of the Comptroller, of the Currency Control (OCC) and USA Patriot Act.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or economics.
  • Five or more years’ experience in Commercial Banking / Lending.
  • Experience with cash flow analysis, ratio analysis and projections is required.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate appraisal techniques, field audit examination techniques and commercial banking regulations required.
  • Formal bank commercial credit training is a plus.
  • Proficient in software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Solid qualitative and quantities analytical skills required.
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual, writing, and communication skills.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills and can work with limited supervision.
  • Existing knowledge of assigned marketplace preferred.
