The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Controller role based in the greater Chicago, IL market. The selected candidate will be responsible for the oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities. The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations with functional responsibility for accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.

This position offers a competitive salary of up to $75K and an attractive benefits package.

Controller responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards.
  • Maintaining internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs and actual expenditures.
  • Overseeing daily cash management and borrowing base reporting.
  • Reconciling applicable general ledger accounts each month and producing financial statements with analysis of variances to budget.
  • Overseeing the calculation of monthly commissions for sales staff and providing supporting documentation to all sales staff.
  • Coordinating and provide info for bank and external auditors.
  • Managing and providing guidance to the accounts payable, credit & collections and human resources staff.
  • Developing reporting and profitability analysis on multiple lines of business.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Proven working experience as a Controller.
  • Five or more years of overall combined accounting and finance experience.
  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
  • Technology savvy with advanced Excel knowledge, with extensive experience designing Excel spreadsheets, knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
  • Commitment to mentoring, training and retaining a diverse team, the foresight, and ability to delegate accordingly.
  • Experience managing accounts payable, credit, collections, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Experienced in working with auditors and preparing information for the same.
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
