The Position

Our bank client is seeking to fill a Mortgage Loan Modification Specialist role located in the greater New York, NY and Newark, NJ markets. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with the timely processing of consumer and residential mortgage loan modifications. The Mortgage Loan Modification Specialist’s primary responsibility will be to calculate final modification terms, draft loan modification agreements, and to update the system of record for modification implementations.

This position offers a generous salary of up to $30/hour (contract or permanent).

Mortgage Loan Modification Specialist responsibilities include:

  • Accurately processing financial modification documents according to the specifications.
  • Advising customers on payment strategies and products that meet their objectives.
  • Providing administrative assistance to the mortgage team, including updating loan data for entry into the financial institution’s computers and assembling correct documentation.
  • Contacting the customers to obtain the necessary information to manage their application as well as any documents they need to process the loan modification.
  • Ensuring the customer is vigilantly aware of the status/result of the present and future payments.
  • Applying current knowledge of modification guidelines, fees, collections strategies, practices, and trends and integrates into customer conversations in a professional manner.
  • Meeting all loan deadlines and demonstrating a helpful and professional attitude towards our internal and external customers.
  • Performing a variety of clerical duties requiring knowledge of departmental procedures.
  • Participating in all required training and all other duties assigned.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College degree preferred: two-year Associate or four-year Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years’ recent experience in mortgage processing.
  • Experience with Freddie Mac and/or Fannie Mae strongly preferred.
  • Banking experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Knowledge of computer software and experience with loan accounting systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and determine priorities.
  • Ability to manage a pipeline.
