The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Senior Accountant role located in the Rosemont, IL market.  The selected candidate will be responsible for performing senior-level accounting functions for the organization’s endowment program, including the Endowment Trust and Special Asset Endowments. This position collaborates with inter-unit and intra-unit functions that support the endowment program, including gift development, gift processing and donor services, investments, accounts payable, information technology, and legal/regulatory compliance.

This position offers a generous salary of up to $60K and benefits package.

Senior Accountant responsibilities include:

  • Prepare journal entries to post investment activity to the general ledger, including reconciliation of the cash management account and consolidated master trust account.
  • Calculate the monthly value of endowment net assets and undistributed income and post amounts calculated to the endowment system. Calculate the management fees and post to the general ledger.
  • Upload account additions and withdrawals to the endowment system and reconcile the related general ledger accounts.
  • Run endowment reports for the month in accordance with the unit’s schedule and prepare reconciliations as required.
  • Quarterly, run endowment distribution payments, donor statements and recipient statements.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for internal distribution, quarterly financial reports for external distribution, and annual consolidating statements for external audit purposes.
  • Record activity for endowment accounts not on the endowment system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Solid understanding of not-for-profit accounting, including accounting for endowments.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of internal and external constituencies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information, maintaining strong personal and organizational integrity.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently, strong attention to detail and deadlines, and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to utilize technology in executing processes and analyzing results.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office products skills and experience with accounting software is required. Familiarity with platforms such as HWA International – TrustProcessor, Sungard – ONESolution and/or Blackbaud – CRM is a plus.
