The Position

Our client seeks to fill a Senior Vice President / Credit Underwriter in the Phoenix, AZ market. The selected candidate reports directly to the Chief Credit Officer.

This position includes a generous salary of up to $135K, full benefits package, stock options, relocation package and is bonus eligible.

Senior Vice President / Credit Underwriter responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing all loan requests for adherence to policy before submission to the CEO and/or board.
  • Overseeing all back-room functions and procedures, including note preparation, tickler miniatous, annual reviews, review of RDC clients, and overdraft protection loans.
  • Supervising, providing resources and coaching loan support stakeholders.
  • Attending board meetings, as well as, the daily huddle and weekly loan department meetings.
  • Focus point for annual OCC exam preparation and, with the CCO, is the primary contact during the exam.
  • Managing the annual review process to ensure all reviews are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Preparing all lending regulatory reports as described in the loan policy and including, but not limited to, ALLL analysis, problem loan reporting, exceptions, SBA sales and reporting.
  • Working with external auditors, vendors, and consultants for lending compliance.
  • Developing, maintaining and/or implementation of procedures that enhance productivity and the customer experience.
  • Reviewing systems utilized by credit administration and finding solutions if changes are needed.
  • Understanding and communicating SBA procedures and changes as received.
  • Managing annual external loan review process, SBA portfolio review, and portfolio shock test.
  • Working with the CCO to update all lending policies and procedures annually.
  • Working with the CEO, CCO, and CFO to provide weekly training to lending stakeholders.
  • Controlling, reviewing and developing internal lending forms to ensure consistency, compliance and professionalism.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • B.S. /B.A. in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics or similar discipline required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Six or more years of commercial lending experience; preferably with a bank.
  • Six or more years of experience working in credit risk analytics and/or risk management with financial institutions including development of credit policy, underwriting standards and internal risk rating scorecards.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in C&I and commercial real estate lending, credit risk management and credit approval process.
  • Expertise in loan structure and administration including experience in business development.
  • Proven record of strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Prior leadership and management experience required.
  • Superior negotiation, relationship building and professional reliability.
