The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Sr. Accounting Officer role located near the greater Topeka, KS market. The position is responsible for managing all the daily activities of the Accounting department to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the consolidated general ledger and minimizing losses.

The opportunity has a generous salary of up to $110K and full benefits package

Sr. Accounting Officer responsibilities include:

  • Managing the Accounting Department to support operational goals, objectives, and execute performance standards.
  • Overseeing the accounting operations of the bank, it’s control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
  • Managing the accuracy and productivity of the daily activities and systems of accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset records, investments, and general accounting.
  • Serving as a member of the bank’s ALCO committee, reporting on the cash needs and investment activity. Participating in the review and evaluation of deposit and loan rates.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the quarterly Call Reports.
  • Ensuring that all general ledger accounts are reconciled in a timely and thorough manner and that all reconciling items are fully researched and documented.
  • Directing and coordinating all activities required in managing and maintaining the bank’s investment portfolio. Analyzing the cash needs of the bank to determine the propriety of investment withdrawals and purchases. Monitoring maturity dates, secures current rates and financial data from financial sources and corresponds with institutions for ultimate investment purchases. Maintaining records of investment interest received and record appropriate accruals.
  • Performing the annual ACH Self-Audit. Supervising the preparation of audit schedules and monitoring implementation and follow-through of audit activities.
  • Responsible for assigned projects; gathers data and prepares reports for senior managers, executives, audits, and other personnel.
  • Maintaining a positive customer service attitude when assisting either internal or external customers. Remain flexible while focused on accepted practices, policies, productivity, and effectiveness.
  • Directly supervising employees assigned to accounting functions.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Periodically meeting with direct reports to establish individual and team performance goals to review, coaching and monitoring performance against goals, discuss significant operations issues and review staff training and development requirements.  Establishing goals and measures to track the success of the department.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university with a major in Accounting
  • Three or more years’ bank accounting and related supervisory experience.
  • A thorough understanding of month-end closing processes, journal entries and accruals, settlement process, cash movements, and balancing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suites, particularly Word & Excel with accurate data entry skills; intermediate knowledge of working with spreadsheets, including basic formulas, data filtering, and sorting.
  • Ability to become proficient in the use of specific software required for the position.
  • A high level of initiative, independent judgment, thoroughness, accuracy, and organizational skills required.
  • Detail oriented with solid analytical skills.
  • High level of confidentiality required.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects with varied deadlines.
