The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Sr. Commercial Credit Analyst role located in the greater Detroit, MI market. The successful Credit Analyst candidate will be responsible for independently and objectively evaluate the creditworthiness of current and prospective commercial borrowers and external Bank vendors and perform various administrative duties and projects to support the Bank’s ongoing credit and risk administrative functions.

This position comes with a generous salary of up to $70K and full benefits package.

Sr. Commercial Credit Analyst responsibilities include:

  • Preparing advanced sensitivity analyses, pro forma cash flows, and assessments of collateral and guarantor financial condition.
  • Conducting analysis of the market (customers) and industry (competition, suppliers, substitutes, and potential new entrants) and management teams and/or deal sponsors.
  • Providing independent recommendations to credit and lending management on whether to approve or renew loans, modify terms of existing loans, maintain or change risk ratings of existing loans, and otherwise suggesting the appropriate credit action.
  • Underwriting primarily medium to large sized loans, generally from $100M-20MM. Providing and maintaining reporting requirements on Bank customers’ credit obligations.
  • Conducting independent and objective annual reviews of existing loans as well as scheduled and unscheduled loan reviews of the existing portfolio.
  • Training/coaching less experienced analysts, providing a daily advisory role and peer support for other analysts.
  • Providing support to Bank customer and staff in explaining credit policies and procedures.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in finance or accounting. MBA or similar advance degree or coursework is a plus.
  • Three or more years’ relevant experience is required with a preference for direct credit analysis experience in a commercial lending environment.
  • Knowledge of banking industry practices relative to bank loan operations with respect to loan products and services.
  • An acute comprehension of GAAP.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills are required.
  • The successful completion of a formal credit /financial analyst training program is strongly preferred.
  • High level of analytical ability.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality of information, as appropriate.
  • Practical working knowledge of financial statement analysis.
  • Solid Computer literacy skills (Word, Excel) with accurate data entry skills and the ability to master specific software programs used to spread financial information.
  • A high level of initiative, thoroughness, accuracy and organizational skills required.
  • Detail oriented with good organizational and effective judgment skills.
