The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Trust Investments Portfolio Manager role in the Hoffman Estates, IL market. This position will be responsible for investing client assets in a manner consistent with the asset allocation guidelines for each client objective, and implementing decisions on sector weights and specific security selections across client accounts.

The position includes a generous salary of up to $140K, full benefits program and is bonus eligible.

Trust Investments Portfolio Manager responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the primary source of investment information in client meetings, and works in cooperation with relationship managers and sales managers in maintaining client relationships and supporting their business development activity.
  • Managing portfolios in a manner consistent with the clients’ investment objectives. Implement the portfolio strategy decisions of the Investment Committee across client accounts to insure consistency of performance outcomes.
  • Actively participating in the decision making process regarding security selection and asset allocation strategy.
  • Staying current on the research of companies on the approved list. Perform equity research on assigned sectors that results in timely buy and sell recommendations and performance of those assigned sectors relative to the S&P 500 sector.
  • Meeting with clients to review investment performance and providing them with information on performance attribution and portfolio strategy suggestions as needed.
  • Actively participating in the due diligence process for mutual fund selections.
  • Supporting the Wealth Management Group advisors, relationship managers trust officers and sales managers in maintaining client relationships and supporting their business development efforts. Seeking new business opportunities independently.
  • Supporting the Qualified Retirement Plan Services group, as needed, in their client retention and business development efforts.
  • Participating with other portfolio managers in backing up the equity trader position, producing monthly reports for the Trust and Portfolio Management Committees and the daily activities required to maintain the Bank’s trading and performance software; Axys and Moxy.
  • Participating in the preparation of reports for Trust Investment Committees.
  • Completing required administrative duties such as quarterly and annual account reviews, as well as, writing timely letters describing current market conditions and our investment recommendations.
  • Participating in weekly economic and market updates for all department employees.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or related field required. MBA and/or CFA designation preferred.
  • Five or more years’ experience in portfolio management, equity research and managing client relationships is required.
  • Strong understanding of the movement of interest rates and fixed income investing.
  • Strong understanding of bond math is required.
  • Credit research experience is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally with individuals and audiences of varying levels of knowledge on the subject of capital markets and investments.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel is required. Experience in using Advent software and Bloomberg preferred.
  • Travel may be required to various bank and client locations.
