The Position

Our client is seeking to fill an Accounting Manager role based in the greater Houston, TX market. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing effective research, tracking, and reporting for accounting transactions to ensure accurate recording in accounting records. In addition, this role designs and executes internal controls over financial reporting, by working independently to apply experienced accounting judgment and advanced knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements in daily activity.

Accounting Manager responsibilities include:

  • Managing, training, coaching, and developing a team of accounting, tax, & compliance employees.
  • Reviewing reports, analysis, and reconciliations prepared by the team to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting and analysis.
  • Maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures with supporting documents, provisions, and other details for accounting transactions and entries.
  • Working with external auditors (regulatory and third party) to provide the required data and information to ensure accuracy.
  • Improving processes and internal controls to increase efficiency and support SOX compliance.
  • Leading the monthly financial close process and preparation of GAAP compliant financial statements, journal entries, and accruals.
  • Overseeing sales tax filing procedure and conducting internal audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Reconciling bank, credit, and balance sheet accounts as required.
  • Administering and maintaining the GL chart of accounts.
  • Managing projects/initiatives, working with and directing teams to deliver the best solutions to financial challenges.
  • Communicating effectively within the team and with external parties.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • B.S Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Five or more years of experience in accounting related role.
  • Two or more years of experience in financial statement or sales/use tax preparation.
  • One or more year of experience leading people directly or indirectly.
  • Thorough knowledge of accepted accounting procedures and principles.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws.
  • Excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word.
