The Position
Our bank client is seeking to fill a Chief Lending Officer role in the Houston, TX market. This position, with a role on the executive team, is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the bank’s lending services including Commercial Lending, Mortgage Lending, Indirect Auto Lending, Home Equity Lending, and Consumer Lending areas.
The opportunity has a generous salary of up to $125K plus bonus and excellent benefits package.
Chief Lending Officer responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the revenue and profit growth of the Commercial Lending, Mortgage Lending, Indirect Auto Lending, Home Equity Lending, and Consumer Lending areas.
- Ensuring that Commercial Lending, Mortgage Lending, Indirect Auto Lending, Home Equity Lending, and Consumer Lending operations are in accordance with established policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Making recommendations to improve the performance of each lending area.
- Ensuring Commercial Lending, Mortgage Lending, Indirect Auto Lending, Home Equity Lending, and Consumer Lending activities result in maximum volume, an appropriate profit for the Bank, and a minimal delinquency ratio.
- Analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of lending services.
- Contributing to ALM discussions concerning loan rate pricing and general ALM strategies.
- Supervising and appraising the activities of subordinate managers and ensuring that all lending services are professionally delivered, and customers are well served.
- Assisting Executive Management with long and short-term Bank planning for the Commercial Lending, Mortgage Lending, Indirect Auto Lending, Home Equity Lending, and Consumer Lending areas. Developing a total lending strategy for the Bank.
- Participating in developing lending policies and procedures and ensuring that they complement organizational goals.
- Executing established goals and coordinating their implementation with other departments and with subordinates.
- Ensuring that all lending activities are conducted in accordance with established policy guidelines and standards and are properly documented.
- Conducting periodic reviews of existing policies to ensure effectiveness.
- Ensuring that policies are updated and are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and industry trends.
- Managing and reviewing delinquencies, charge-offs, bankruptcies, and foreclosures.
- Present all results to the Board of Directors monthly.
- Managing and overseeing expenses. Pursuing cost-saving measures.
- Keeping Executive Management informed of loan activities, progress toward established objectives, and of any significant problems.
- Ensuring the availability of adequate services and materials to support lending activities.
- Providing leadership to assigned personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducting staff meetings as required.
- Ensuring that personnel is well trained, effective, and optimally used. Instructing personnel regarding policy, procedure, and program changes and ensuring that they are well informed regarding related legal and regulatory developments.
- Conducting performance appraisals as required. Formulating and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Ensuring that the Bank’s professional reputation is maintained throughout lending and business transactions with customers.
- Managing vendor relationships and reviewing vendor proposals geared at improving lending functions.
- Staying informed regarding developments and changes in lending services.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

You also bring the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting / Finance.
- Eight or more years of similar or related experience as a CLO covering Commercial Lending, Mortgage Lending, Indirect Auto Lending, Home Equity Lending, and Consumer Lending.
- Thorough knowledge of Commercial Lending, Mortgage Lending, Indirect Auto Lending, Home Equity Lending and Consumer Lending products and applicable policies and standards.
- Loan Operations experience a plus.
- Understanding of government regulations and legal requirements involving lending, collections, insurance, and related functions.
- Proven success in growing loan portfolios.
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.
- Good organizational, managerial, and problem-solving abilities.
