The Position
Our client is seeking to fill a Commercial Portfolio Manager role in the greater Sparta, NJ market. This selected candidate will be responsible for conducting risk management reviews and monitoring the accuracy of client portfolios to establish compliance with loan approval conditions. The incumbent in this position will demonstrate sound underwriting capacity, depth of experience in a wide variety of loan types and complexities, and the ability to manage a portfolio with limited supervision.
This position includes a generous salary of up to $100K plus generous bonus and full benefits package. (This is not a remote position.)
Commercial Portfolio Manager responsibilities include:
- Underwriting and originating of new credits from existing and/or new customers to include renewals, modifications, and annual reviews. Making appropriate loan structure recommendations.
- Preparing spreads, performing covenant checks, completing CRE reviews, updating ticklers, and populating FDM (electronic document storage system) within a reasonable timeframe upon receipt of financial information and/or other requested documentation.
- Spreading, analyzing and reviewing financial condition, income sources, and collateral coverage of borrowers including corporations, partnerships, sole proprietors, and individuals.
- Collecting updated borrower financial information in accordance with periodic reporting requirements and completing scheduled loan reviews.
- Preparing loan presentation write-ups for management and loan committee approvals.
- Conducting regular site visits and preparing site visit reports for loans in his/her portfolio in accordance with Credit policies and procedures.
- Assisting in maintaining strong credit quality, including management of payment delinquencies, loan maturities and ongoing portfolio management functions including financial statement monitoring, risk grade assessments, and covenant testings.
- Ensuring the appropriate gathering of underwriting documentation to support approval conclusions for new originations, refinances, modifications, renewals, and extensions.
- Reviewing new loans for policy and regulatory requirements and identifies exceptions as incurred for tracking.
- Preparing various monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc reporting via bank systems and excel.
- Supporting or completing special projects as assigned by the Credit Administration Director.

You also bring the following skills and experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required; Finance, Accounting or advanced degree is preferred.
- Five or more years’ experience in experience in commercial/C&I and real estate lending analysis preferred. Experience in agricultural, construction and SBA lending would be considered a plus.
- Formal Credit Training preferred.
- Working knowledge of financial analysis and accounting theory, and the ability to write clearly, logically, and analytically.
- Additional education in banking and commercial loans through AIB desirable.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to be a self-starter and demonstrates a strong level of initiative and commitment with a minimum level of supervision.
- Ability to understand accounting, including financial statement spreads, cash flows, and credit analysis.
- Ability to define problems, proactively identify and articulate risks, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
