The Position
Our client is seeking to fill an Enterprise Risk Officer role in the Grand Rapids, MI market. The position is responsible for strategic planning and oversight of enterprise-wide risk management appetite framework, policies, programs, processes, personnel, reports, and systems for managing and monitoring risk exposure derived from all banking and financial services activities.
The opportunity has a generous salary of up to $170K plus bonus and an attractive benefits plan.
Enterprise Risk Officer responsibilities include:
- Directing, administering and overseeing risk management activities in accordance with the goals and objectives established by the CEO and the Board of Directors.
- Serving as the primary liaison between bank management and the Board of Director’s Committee.
- Proposing and implementing recommendations to improve reporting systems, data integrity, and processes to identify, and assessing and mitigating risks in all departments.
- Assuring that the bank and it’s business units adequately identify, measure, monitor and control the bank’s credit, interest rate, liquidity, price, operational, compliance, strategic and reputation risks relative to the products, services, and activities for which they are responsible.
- Overseeing of the Bank’s compliance, reputation, and financial risk related to bank laws and regulations.
- Evaluating and enhancing the Bank’s existing reports to measure and mitigate operational, regulatory, and reputation risk.
- Developing and implementing plans for the infrastructure of risk management systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the Bank and associated regulatory compliance responsibilities.
- Attending Board of Directors meetings, Audit Committee meetings, Regulatory meetings, management meetings, and other meetings as required.
- Providing management of and support to outside legal counsel while addressing customer disputes that escalate from the Bank’s direct customer contacts. As well as, disputes that have escalated to the point of threatened litigation.
- Reviewing all contracts for legal requirements/impact prior to the Bank execution.
- Ensuring the Loss Prevention and Physical Security programs are effective at directing internal and external loss prevention resources to reduce or eliminate losses from all sources.

You also bring the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Economics, Finance, Business Management, related field or equivalent.
- Five or more years of progressive experience in banking compliance or regulatory roles.
- Familiarity with compliance monitoring and testing systems.
- CRCM, CAMS, or similar certification is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to work under deadlines.
- Excellent leadership skills demonstrated by ownership of issues through their resolution while providing sound guidance to others.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be experienced in making presentations.
