The Position

Our bank client is seeking to fill a VP – Sr. Credit Underwriter Manager role in the New York, NY market. The successful candidate will be contributing to the loan growth potential of the Bank by underwriting credit risk, assessing current credit quality and assign proper risk ratings, engaging in client meetings or calls with the lending team to assess the credit of the borrowers. The candidate will be responsible for underwriting of new or existing loans in a portfolio primarily of CRE, Commercial, Industrial lines of credit, and term facilities.

The position includes a generous salary of up to $150K and an excellent benefits package.

VP – Sr. Credit Underwriter Manager responsibilities include:

  • Managing and supervising all areas of the Underwriting Department.
  • Collaborating with the Chief Credit Officer to review credits prior to submission to Management Loan Committee and the Board.
  • Collaborating with Board and management to ensure that the bank’s credit culture fully considers safe and sound practices.
  • Providing feedback/guidance to the lenders that will strengthen the credit (if needed) and conform to policy and ensure that policy exception are duly noted.
  • Independently assess complex credit issues and analyze risk.
  • Reviewing financial statements, tax returns, rent rolls, and cash flow projections.
  • Conducting site visits as necessary and prepare site visit reports for loans in the portfolio in accordance with lending procedures.
  • Underwriting loan extensions and renewal requests as needed.
  • Collaborating with Chief Credit Officer and the Accounting department for an effective review and update to Risk Asset Acceptance Criteria (RAAC’s).
  • Writing credit procedures to support ALLL methodology in line with GAPP and regulatory standards.
  • Direct input with the Board of Directors ALCO Committee.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA preferred.
  • At least 15 years’ experience in the Credit field as a credit officer, who is proficient in credit underwriting, structuring, risk rating, and risk management.
  • Proficient in analyzing financial statements of commercial real estate, multi-family, and business operations.
  • Formal credit training preferred.
  • Small business loan experience.
  • Strong Underwriting skills set and ability to understand and communicate credit issues.
  • Ability to underwrite and monitor commercial and industrial loans, lines of credit, term facilities, and other types of loans.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit quality and credit analysis.
  • Ability to interact with borrowers, attorneys, accountants, appraisers, and any other external professionals as required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, relationship management, and business development skills, working with both private-sector financial institutions and public agencies.
