The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Mortgage Loan Processor/Underwriter role in the near the Reedsburg, WI area. The Mortgage Loan Processor/Underwriter’s primary responsibility is to assist loan officers with bringing approved loans to funding by working closely with loan applicants and third parties, such as appraisers, title companies and attorneys. They are also responsible for performing credit and property analysis on conventional loan files, ensuring compliance with appropriate company and investor standards and making final loan decisions within written approval authority in accordance with appropriate guidelines

This position offers a generous salary of up to $65K and a full benefits package.

Mortgage Loan Processor/Underwriter responsibilities include:

  • Preparing preliminary loan disclosures in compliance with the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Truth in Lending Act, and any other applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Requesting title searches, title policy commitments, UCC searches, insurance certificates, articles of organization, operating agreements, trust agreements, corporate by-laws, and legal opinions;
  • Underwriting a full range of Fannie and Freddie mortgages
  • Strong knowledge of Jumbo and FHA /VA loans.
  • Performing timely reviews of loan submissions and conditions.
  • Analyzing credit, collateral and accompanying documents to render sound credit decisions.
  • Running OFAC checks and collecting information in accordance with Bank Secrecy Act;
  • Following procedures to efficiently and accurately process home loan products at a quality level consistent with established FNMA, Private Mortgage Insurance, and internal guidelines, as well as meeting all regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining a pipeline of loans, ensuring timely flow of loans through the process.
  • Monitoring and ensuring closing dates and company deadlines are met.
  • Reviewing loan files for completeness upon receipt and updating data in the system of record as needed prior to submitting to Underwriting.
  • Ensuring all documentation necessary to obtain a loan approval has been received, reviewed, and updated in the system of record.
  • Satisfying all underwriting conditions and preparing the file for submission to the Closing department.
  • Verifying the accuracy of all information provided by borrowers at the time of loan application including but not limited to income, assets, employment, liabilities, and residency.
  • Analyzing and assessing both personal and business tax returns, including all schedules.
  • Fulfilling documentation verification requirements for loan approval including but not limited to verbal and/or written verifications of employment, assets, mortgage, and rent.
  • Working with third party vendors to complete documentation requirements to support property collateral including but not limited to: title companies, appraisal management/property evaluation companies, Realtors, attorney’s, survey companies.
  • Working with Credit Reporting vendors to complete documentation related to credit review.
  • Monitoring rate lock information for data integrity and expiration dates; appropriately communicating to Loan Originator.
  • Collecting HMDA and CRA reporting data on each closed, withdrawn, or denied file; and post-funding tracking and review of documents perfecting the collateral.
  • Completing, processing and issuing all required adverse action notices.
  • Completing and issuing all required re-disclosures in the event of a changed circumstance.
  • Maintaining consistent communication with customers throughout the loan process, assisting them with questions including updates on loan status and notifying them of additional requirements.
  • Acting as a liaison between the Loan Originator, members, Realtors, and contractors.
  • Keeping abreast of changes in policy, procedure, guidelines and regulations applicable to the Credit Union and the mortgage industry via various learning/information channels; understands and applies local, state, and federal regulations related to processing loans.
  • Providing excellent customer service by effectively communicating and cooperating with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Acting as a backup for other functions in the department and providing training as assigned.
  • Verifying and testing for accuracy and efficiency all processes and procedures related to mortgage processing activities; suggests changes to support organizational effectiveness.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Current enrollment towards a bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Two years of banking, accounting, financial services or real estate related experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing and assessing personal tax returns and business tax returns for Corporations, S-Corps, and Partnerships, including all schedules. FHA and VA processing experience a plus. Knowledge of Texas Home Equity Loan processes is desired.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Efficient with the use of a personal computer, Microsoft Office products, Credit Bureau Systems, financial calculators, DU, Doc Magic, Optimal Blue, and Encompass.
