The Position

Our San Antonio-based bank client is seeking to fill a VP-Commercial Lending Division role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expertise and training on all loan servicing and documentation issues, including involved ownership structures, loan types, and securitization.

The position includes a generous salary of up to $195K and an excellent benefits package. (This is not a remote position.)

VP-Commercial Lending Division responsibilities include:

  • Manages the day to day operations of the Commercial Services Department, to include business development and loan/credit administration.  Supervises, trains, motivates employees.  Provides feedback to management with respect to the staff’s performance, disciplinary issues, attendance, etc.  Performs coaching, documenting, and improving skills levels of staff.
  • Hires, trains, and mentors Commercial staff.  Responsible general supervisory duties for development, planning, and scheduling of staff.
  • Ensures that risk management of each member relationship and overall portfolio administration is in compliance with established credit union policy, procedure and business strategy as well as commercial and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provides commercial credit administration oversight, including 1) commercial credit underwriting 2) commercial risk rating maintenance, 3) problem asset management, 4) loan documentation and file maintenance.
  • Responsible for loan and deposit growth through commercial banking portfolio and centers of influence to grow market share, as well as to retain / grow existing portfolio.  Member and prospect calling activity consists of telephone and in-person calling. Will assist Senior Commercial Relationship Manager with calling efforts.
  • Develops commercial banking relationships by profiling and analyzing financial data to determine the merits of specific loan requests and recommend structure.  
  • Responsible for building a Commercial deposit structure to be competitive in the market.  Gains a solid understanding of deposit needs of prospects and ability to provide solutions to meet those needs. Will lead efforts for collecting deposits.
  • Makes presentations on specific loans and participate in the credit union’s loan approval process, recommending approval and appropriate structure of credits.
  • Provides financial advice and counsel to members and prospective members regarding trends and conditions of the business environment and general banking trends though bank approved sources. Appropriately cross-sells services and products to meet members’ financial needs
  • Participates in community and business functions/groups to ensure a positive image for the credit union. Establish referral contacts within the community.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and/or Accounting or related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in a Commercial Lending operations department.
  • Above-average proficiency in loan documentation and servicing software systems, including experience with the implementation of new systems. Demonstrated ability to function in a variety of programs and systems as part of job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge and experience working with title companies, construction monitoring companies, municipalities, and general contractors.
  • General working knowledge of construction permits, licenses, and lien waivers.
  • Thorough understanding of the funding process.
